Get Your Home Summer Ready

Summer is Selling Season. The skies are blue, travelling conditions are optimal and the sun is shining! Here are some tips on how to get your home ready for the sunny days ahead.

First, De-Clutter! It’s something you’ve probably heard countless times whether it’s from your Agent, a blog post (wink wink), or your family and friends. Not only does de-cluttering open up your home visually, extra living space equals extra breathing space. A de-cluttered home gives off a sense of luxurious grandeur, and naturally, a Buyer will be more drawn to a home that feels larger.

Curb Appeal. As the saying goes, ‘You will never get a second chance to make a first impression’. Buyers tend to decide within the first few moments of seeing a home whether or not to continue the showing. Dedicate a day to show the outside of your home some TLC! Pull those weeds, sweep that driveway, plant those seasonal flowers. You would be surprised how the smallest change can make such a huge difference.

To add onto the previous tip, don’t neglect the backyard. Far too often, sellers will be so preoccupied with curb appeal that they will forget all about yard appeal! A backyard should be inviting and make people want to host a Sunday barbecue party, not be worried to step in the mid-calf length grass because they don’t know what could be lurking.

Take advantage of the summer sun! This season has the longest days which means you have tons of natural light to work with. Depending on the direction your windows are facing, you should open your blinds and curtains to maximize the natural light. If you find your rooms getting too hot because of this, consider opening a window or two to get some air flowing.

And lastly, a wise tip from HGTV’s ‘Property Brothers’: “Even though you likely won’t be home for a showing, greet buyers like you would party guests. During the dog days of summer, set out a cool pitcher of lemonade for buyers. Anything you can do to make them linger a little longer can only help you sell..”
